This year we had National History Day. We had to pick a tragedy that appeared in Philadelphia that was a conflict and had a Compromise. For my topic I choose the 1985 MOVE Bombing. My partners Shaquille Rankin, Aquila Waller, and I decided to do a play. During this process I learned numerous things about MOVE and there struggles for justice. I also learned about Move’s belief and their outlook on life. These experiences lead me to meet Ramona Africa and visit the urban archives at temple, which was all brand new to me.
This project was not always so easy. There were plenty obstacles my partners and me had to face. Some of the challenges we had to face was time management, writing the script, making sure everyone had a part to play and last but not least the annotations. The annotations were everyone’s problem in our group. Our annotations were all over the place. We had plenty but couldn’t find them. When it was time to turn in the annotation to our teachers we only had 27 out of 60 that was not good. But, we did have a lot of successes. We got to write a successful play. We had all our props in order and remembered our lines, which was not an easy test. But what was our most successful moment was getting to gather and performing very well in front of the judges.
Although NHD was hard, we had numerous challenges and obstacles to face I wouldn’t change anything. We worked well as a group we got our work done and at the end of the day we were all proud of the outcome although we did not go to cities.
